Kyrgyz phrases for the airport and border
At the airport and border, it helps to recognise questions about your passport, visit and luggage. Use these short replies and requests for clarification.
Keep your ticket, accommodation address and trip details handy. Show a document or confirmation when it helps you answer accurately. The sample dialogue illustrates a conversation; it is not a checklist of entry requirements.
How to read the phrases
The Latin line is an approximate reading aid. u sounds like oo in food; ı is an unrounded back vowel. y sounds like y in yes, j like j in jam, ng like ng in sing, ch like ch in chair and sh like sh in shop. For ö and ü, round your lips while trying to say eh and ee. Double vowels are held longer. Bold type in the reading aid marks the stressed syllable. One-syllable words and words whose stress has not been confirmed are left unmarked.
Check-in, boarding and baggage
Show your ticket when asking about your flight. “Жүк” means luggage; at the airport “каттоо” refers to check-in. If your bag has not arrived, speak to a member of staff and show your baggage receipt.

Questions at passport control
Use the answers about tourism, ten days and a hotel only if they match your actual trip. Check your dates and address before answering. These phrases help you understand questions; entry requirements need to be checked separately.

When you need clarification
Ask the speaker to repeat or slow down. If a question about documents is still unclear, ask for an interpreter. This request does not guarantee that one will be immediately available.

Clarify a flight announcement
The staff member repeats that the flight is delayed. The phrase does not give a new departure time.

Answer about your actual visit
Use the tourism phrase only if that is your reason for travelling. Give the length of stay and address that match your plans. Ask for a question to be repeated if you do not understand; avoid agreeing to a condition you have not understood.
Luggage and boarding
If there is a baggage problem, show the baggage tag and describe your bag. Check the departure board and boarding pass for your gate and boarding time; a phrasebook cannot supply details for your flight.
