What to check before booking
A short tourist visit involves three separate questions: which document Kyrgyzstan accepts, how many days you may stay without a visa and whether your nationality is exempt from registration. Visa-free entry still has a time limit, while registration does not extend your permitted stay.
Start with your nationality and the document you will present at the border. Then count every day spent in Kyrgyzstan during the relevant period, including previous visits. Our general travel information for Kyrgyzstan covers insurance, communications and other preparations.
What 30/60 means. You may spend no more than 30 days in Kyrgyzstan during the relevant 60-day period. A short trip across the border does not automatically reset the allowance.
Which document you need
Russian citizens. Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that adult Russian citizens may enter with either a domestic or an international passport. If no border stamp is placed in a domestic passport, keep tickets and boarding passes as evidence of the entry date.
Other nationalities. An ordinary tourist normally needs a valid travel document, usually a passport. It must remain usable for the journey, have undamaged pages and meet the carrier's conditions. A practical safety margin is at least six months of validity beyond your planned departure.
If you hold two nationalities, check the rules for the passport you intend to use at the border. Present the same document when leaving and during registration so that the dates and permitted stay match the migration record.

How long you may stay without a visa
The authorities count calendar days from the day you cross the border. Re-entering does not always start a new allowance because the rule may limit the total number of days within a longer period.
Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan
In total during any applicable 180-day period.
Germany, United Kingdom, United States
In total during any applicable 60-day period.
Uzbekistan
In total during any applicable 120-day period.
Serbia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Mongolia
In total during any applicable 180-day period.
The cards give common examples rather than a complete list. Before travelling, use Kyrgyzstan's official e-Visa portal and select the country and type of your travel document. Check the purpose as well: visa-free tourism does not authorise employment or study.
When you need a visa
You need a visa if your passport is outside a visa-free regime, your visit exceeds the permitted allowance or its purpose requires separate permission. You can apply through the official e-Visa portal when the system offers an electronic visa for your nationality and purpose.
Every traveller needs a separate electronic visa, including babies and children. The application is completed in English. Every character must match the passport: an application cannot be corrected after payment, and the fee is not refunded if it is refused.
For an e-Visa, the portal requires a passport valid for at least six months beyond the requested visa period and at least two blank pages. Its stated review period begins after a complete and corrected document package has been submitted. Leave a buffer before an international connection and avoid a non-refundable ticket until approval arrives.
When registration is required
Registration records a foreign visitor's address in Kyrgyzstan. It does not replace a visa or add days to a visa-free allowance. Citizens of Russia, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are exempt from registration for the first 30 calendar days after entry.
The exemption period differs for other nationalities. Where no exemption applies, the general procedure requires registration at the place of stay within five working days of entry. A hotel, guesthouse, property owner or another eligible person or organisation may act as the host.
Before booking a long stay, ask whether the accommodation will arrange registration and when it will provide the registration certificate. Applications and status checks are available through the government's online foreigner registration service at ereg.e-gov.kg. Keep the electronic or paper certificate until departure.
Do not wait until the final day. An overstay can lead to a fine and the need for an exit visa. Registering after a missed deadline does not erase responsibility for the earlier breach.
Three sample trips
These examples show how the travel document, visa-free allowance and registration rule work together. Check the rules for your own passport again before departure.
14 days without registration
- A Russian citizen may use either a domestic or an international passport.
- No visa is needed while the 90/180 allowance remains available.
- Registration is not required for a stay of up to 30 days. If a domestic passport is not stamped, keep the international ticket or boarding pass.
45 days with registration
- The visit remains within the 90/180 visa-free allowance if earlier trips have not used the available days.
- A stay longer than 30 days requires registration. Confirm the arrangement with the host before the exemption period ends.
- Give the host the same passport that was presented at the border.
How to count the remaining days
- A trip from 10 to 22 May uses 13 calendar days, including the arrival and departure dates.
- On re-entry on 5 June, that earlier visit falls within the applicable 60-day period.
- If there were no other visits, 17 of the 30 permitted days remain.
Travelling with a child
A child needs a document accepted both by the country of departure and by Kyrgyzstan. Since 20 January 2026, a birth certificate no longer allows a Russian citizen under 14 to leave Russia for Kyrgyzstan, so the child needs their own international passport for this journey.
For a child of another nationality, check the rules against the child's own passport even if the child appears in a parent's document. A separate application is required for every child who needs an e-Visa.
If a minor travels without their parents or with only one parent, carry parental consent and evidence of the family relationship. The rules of the departure country, transit country and carrier may differ from Kyrgyzstan's requirements, so check the whole journey.
Pre-departure checklist
- Choose the passport you will use to enter and leave.
- Confirm the visa-free allowance or obtain a visa before travel.
- Count earlier days spent in Kyrgyzstan during the relevant period.
- Check the document's validity and physical condition.
- Prepare separate documents and a visa for each child.
- Ask your accommodation about registration and obtain the certificate if required.
- Check the carrier's rules and the requirements of transit countries.
- Keep tickets, accommodation details and document copies separately from the originals.
