Bosteri's market is widely known as the Sunday market. The photographs on this page were taken on Sunday, 22 October 2023, when the main aisles were trading in food, clothing, footwear, felt goods and souvenirs. The current Waze listing likewise shows Sunday only, from 07:00 to 14:00.
Older travel guides list both Saturday and Sunday. No recent public notice from the operator confirms that schedule throughout the year. The safest plan is to arrive on Sunday between 08:00 and 11:00, then check the map listing or ask your host to confirm the opening time before you leave.

How is the market laid out and where is it?
The market occupies a large rectangular site between the main road and the residential part of Bosteri. Covered aisles, outdoor stalls, containers and pedestrian passages fill the site. Kyrgyzstan's public inspection register lists the trading market at 100 Mamytov Street, Bosteri. One entrance carries a straightforward sign reading “Ярмарка”, Russian for “fair”.

The aerial photographs explain the overall scale, but similar roofs and awnings soon look alike at ground level. Save your entrance on the map and agree on a precise meeting point if you split up. Leave a car outside the market itself, where access lanes are busy with trading, deliveries and shoppers.
What to buy at Bosteri Market
Food. Stalls may carry apples, vegetables, eggs, preserves and other seasonal produce. The selection changes with the time of year and the individual Sunday. For fish, dairy or meat, check the storage temperature, containers and smell. Skip perishable food if it will spend a long journey without refrigeration.
Clothing and footwear. The market sells everyday and seasonal clothes, hats, shoes and small household items. A label size is no substitute for trying something on. Inspect both shoes, zips, seams and linings before paying.

How to choose goods and bargain
Begin by looking at several neighbouring stalls and compare like with like. Two similar ak-kalpaks may differ in material, the firmness of the base, embroidery and stitching. With produce, compare ripeness, damage and storage conditions as well as the price per kilogram.
Bargaining is acceptable with some sellers, especially when you buy several items. Ask calmly for the final price or a discount on the set. If the price does not work for you, thank the seller and move on. A discount never replaces an inspection.
Count the items, check the packaging and ask what happens if you find a defect before paying. For a substantial purchase, save the seller's number and photograph the aisle. A random picture of the goods without a number or landmark will not help you find the stall a week later.
Money, bags and safety
Cash in som is the most dependable way to pay. Some sellers may accept a transfer to a local number or a QR payment, but a foreign card and your particular banking app may not work. Bring a sturdy reusable bag. The use and sale of polymer-film bags is restricted in Issyk-Kul's resort and recreational zone; in July 2026 the Ministry of Natural Resources inspected trading premises in Bosteri. Your own bag is also safer for fragile souvenirs and heavy produce.
In a busy market, wear a closed bag in front, do not leave a phone at the edge of a stall and count change away from the pedestrian flow. Ask permission before making a close portrait of a seller. A wide aisle view or a detail of the merchandise is often easier, but the camera should never obstruct trade.
How to reach Bosteri Market
Bosteri lies on Issyk-Kul's north shore beside Cholpon-Ata. From nearby resort villages, use a minibus or taxi along the main road and ask for the yarmarka, the Russian word commonly used for the fair. Show the driver the map pin: “market” could mean either a small daily bazaar or the larger weekend site.
If you drive, arrive in the morning and do not expect a space beside the nearest entrance. Save the car's location, keep delivery access clear and place purchases in the boot before continuing your walk.
What to combine with the market
The market fits neatly into the first half of Sunday. Afterwards, return to a beach in Bosteri or continue to Cholpon-Ata. You can pair the shopping with one cultural sight, such as the petroglyph field or Rukh Ordo, but leave a full circuit of the north shore for a different day.
