Do not borrow the scoring scale from another combat sport: Alysh has its own grip, technical values and weight classes.
The core of a bout
Hands on the belt
- The bout starts with a mutual grip.
- The belt shapes every attack.
- The referee handles an illegal release.
Wrestling on the feet
- Throws, trips and foot sweeps drive the action.
- Ground wrestling is not the main phase.
- The referee resets the wrestlers when needed.
Fall or points
- A decisive controlled throw can end the bout.
- Lesser actions score points.
- The current rules define the scale.
Why the belt changes the contest
Alysh starts at close range. The fixed grip removes the long search for contact and makes both athletes work immediately with the hips, legs and centre of gravity.
A World Nomad Games ruleset uses blue or green jackets, white trousers and a red belt. The international federation can update uniform details and scoring, so competitors need the current edition.
How a bout unfolds
After the command, the wrestlers maintain the belt grip and attack with throws, trips and body rotation. Dangerous pressure on the head or joints is prohibited.
Officials judge how both athletes land and whether the attacker kept control. A complete throw receives the highest result; partial actions add points. Tie-breaks follow the event regulations.
Alysh and Kyrgyz Kurosh
Both use belts, but the uniform and logic are different. Alysh wrestlers wear jackets and follow an international grip and scoring system.
In Kyrgyz Kurosh, the traditional rules leave the upper body bare and define a throw onto the shoulder blades as the central objective.
What a spectator should notice
Watch the hips and feet, not just the hands. A small step and a pull on the belt often set up the decisive throw. The referee may stop the action after a broken grip or boundary exit.
A first lesson begins with breakfalls on proper mats. Do not try the throws on grass or a carpet without a coach.
Frequently asked questions
Can wrestlers release the belt?
A continuous belt grip is central to Alysh. The current rules define any permitted adjustment and the penalty for an illegal release.
Do women compete in Alysh?
Yes. International Alysh includes men's and women's divisions, while each event publishes its own weight list.
Is Alysh like judo?
Both feature throws, but the compulsory belt grip, uniform, scoring and what happens after a fall are different.
