Er Enish is not a casual visitor activity: it requires trained riders, trained horses, a referee, suitable tack and medical clearance.
What decides a bout
Upper-body control

What happens in the arena
Two riders enter the circle and begin on the referee's command. Each looks for a strong hold, shifts the opponent's weight and tries to unseat him while keeping control of his own horse.
The official World Nomad Games description defines the objective as making any part of the opponent's body touch the ground. Leaving the arena, dangerous techniques and inability to continue are handled separately.
The horse is an athlete too
The horse has to hold a line, tolerate close contact and respond to a rider whose hands are busy wrestling. A random trail horse is not suitable. Tack must fit correctly, and the warm-up area must be kept away from spectators.
Water, shade, rest and veterinary oversight are part of responsible competition. Calling poor preparation “traditional” does not make it acceptable.

Weight classes and equipment
One published World Nomad Games ruleset uses men's divisions under 60, 70, 80 and 90 kilograms, plus over 90. These are tournament categories, not a permanent definition of Er Enish.
Riders use a belt and robust clothing suitable for the approved grips. Competition also requires a referee, medical clearance and an arena designed for horses.
How to watch safely
Stay behind the outer barrier, especially near the horse entrance. Do not approach a fallen rider, use flash or call to the horses.
Er Enish often shares a programme with kok boru, racing and tyiyn enmei. Wait for the announcer while the venue is reset between disciplines.
Frequently asked questions
Are Er Enish and oodarysh the same?
The names can refer to related forms of horseback wrestling in different countries. In a Kyrgyz programme, look for the name Er Enish and read that event's rules.
Can a visitor try it?
A full bout requires trained riders and horses. A demonstration and a separate riding lesson are safer ways to learn about the sport.
What has to touch the ground?
The official description says any part of the body. The referee applies the current event rules.
