What is known about Ak-Tyuz?
The base is near the settlement of Ak-Tyuz in Kemin District, away from the main tourist centres around Issyk-Kul. Treat it as a separate winter trip only after receiving direct confirmation that it is operating, rather than as a resort guaranteed to be open.
Official status. The Kyrgyz Department of Tourism includes Ak-Tyuz in its register of ski bases. The listing gives neither a website nor an address, but it does publish the contact number +996 703 750 570. Prepare a list of questions before calling instead of asking only whether the base is open.
Public information is limited. As of 12 August 2026, no official piste map, timetable or prices for the coming 2026/27 season could be confirmed. Exact figures from old directories should not be repeated as current information.
Who may enjoy it. Ak-Tyuz may suit travellers prepared to make arrangements in advance, travel as their own group and change plans in poor weather. For a first lesson, a trip without a car or a day with small children, choose a base with published hours and clearly described facilities.
The road to Ak-Tyuz
From Bishkek, the route runs east through the ChΓΌy Valley into Kemin District and then towards Ak-Tyuz and the base. Navigation shows the direction but does not confirm the condition of the final road. Save an offline map and ask a representative of the base to send the current turn-off point.
Older descriptions promise a fully paved, safe approach for an ordinary car. That guarantee cannot be made in winter. After snow or a thaw, ask whether the final section has been cleared, how steep it is, what parking is available and whether chains are needed.
A car needs winter tyres, a full tank, warm clothing and enough time to return before dark. If using a transfer, arrange both the outbound and return journeys at once. The driver needs the exact destination, not only the name of the settlement.
Questions to ask before travelling
Slope status. Ask which piste is open, when the last lift runs and whether wind may stop operations. A general statement that the season has begun is not information for your chosen date.
The lift. Confirm which type of lift is operating and the boarding rules. This matters particularly to beginners and parents with children: a drag lift and a chairlift require different skills.
Equipment. Ask for exact boot sizes, helmet availability and whether bindings can be adjusted. If the base cannot confirm a complete set, rent in the city and check compatibility before leaving.
Lessons. Find out whether an instructor will be present and whether there is a designated learning slope. Do not treat help from another visitor as a proper lesson, especially when using a lift for the first time.
Facilities. Ask about a heated room, toilets, food, mobile coverage and card payments. If no answer is available, bring food, water and cash, but do not take this as confirmation that the base will definitely open.
Booking. Before transferring money, obtain the recipient's name, cancellation terms and written confirmation of the service. Check the phone number against the state register. Do not pay an account simply because it was the first to respond to a question posted on social media.
How to decide whether to go
The trip makes sense when the base has confirmed operations for your date, the road is passable, and your group is bringing suitable equipment or has a confirmed rental booking. Without all three, the risk of spending the day on the road outweighs the benefit.
A beginner needs a fourth condition: a confirmed instructor and learning slope. If neither is available, do not try to learn on an unfamiliar piste. Choose another base with a published map and ski school.
Make a backup plan in Kemin District or return to Bishkek if the lift does not open. Do not head into the mountains independently simply because you have already arrived. A winter slope outside an operating base is not automatically a safe tourist route.
Check the contacts again before a future season. The number, operator and working arrangements may change, and a message saved from the previous year does not confirm current status.
